Submitting A Manuscript

We only accept for consideration those submissions which come via a literary agent. This decision has been taken in response to the vast number of unsolicited submissions we have been receiving, which we simply do not have the time or the manpower to evaluate properly.

We therefore suggest that you try to get taken on by an agent as they are in the best position to assess your work, send it to the most appropriate publishers, and negotiate on your behalf should your work be accepted for publication. Literary agencies are listed in The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook, which is published annually by A & C Black and can be found in all good bookshops and libraries. Another good source of information is Book Trust who have details of courses and competitions as well as tips for submitting your manuscript and getting published. You may also find The Literary Consultancy useful for advice and manuscript assessment.

The usual requirement by agents is a synopsis and a few sample chapters (approximately 50 pages), all typed and double-spaced.
